RHCSA: A newbie in Red Hat Certifications

Red Hat has just released new version of Red Hat Enterprise Linux, RHEL 6. With this new arrival, certifications under Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 will no longer be current. RHCT Exam under RHEL 4 and RHEL 5 will no longer be offered form Red Hat. In the new line of Red Hat certifications, RHCSA has become base level certification from Red Hat.

Are you a RHCE under RHEL 4?

Become non-current 6o days after release of RHEL 6
RHCT’s can become current with an RHCSA certificate by passing RHCSA Exam (EX 200)
RHCE can re-certify by passing RHCSA Exam (EX 200) and RHCE Exam (EX 300)

Are you a RHCE under RHEL 5?

Become non-current 60 days after the release of RHEL 7. Hence it’s not necessary to re-certify under RHEL 6.
RHCT will automatically become RHCSA under RHEL 5.
RHCT’s who wish to become RHCE under RHEL 6 must pass RHCSA (EX 200) and RHCE (EX 300)

All about RHEL 6

Become non-current only after 3 calendar year
RHCSA under RHEL 6 can extend current window by passing a single exam (EX 300)

Main changes in RHCE Exam on RHEL 6 are; earlier RHCE Exam (RH302) will be replaced by RHCSA Exam (EX 200) and updated RHCE Exam (EX300). RHCSA certification is not a prerequisite for RHCE Exam. One can write RHCE exam before getting RHCSA certification. When they pass RHCSA the earlier RHCE will be considered and get RHCE Certification under RHEL 6.

“I am Nael Abu Diab from Lebanon, currently working as an IT engineer. In order to advance to new realms of my career, I need more skills and certifications. I spent long time searching out the internet and found many institutes offering Open Source training. IPSR, which was listed in the top of major search engines, attracted my attention. Then I went through special offers for international students, it seemed to fit my wallet. I contacted IPSR and cleared my doubts with them. They planned well and scheduled the course within a convenient time period. According to their special offers that include pick up from the airport, accommodation, and everything in between was managed successfully. Lodging and food was arranged by IPSR at one of the best hotels. Each day they offered transportation to and from the training centre.

This is my first visit to India, for the first few days it was difficult for me to adjust with the climate and food. Later everything became normal.  IPSR took special care for my training. The faculties are highly talented and dedicated. The training sessions were very useful and I’m much enchanted to say I completed RHCE course and got certification before the scheduled time.  I could make use of lab at any time and got enough knowledge with in a short period of time. I specially thank Mr Anish for his services. I was greatly touched by the hospitality of the entire IPSR family. I would recommend IPSR for those hard working students seeking IT certifications with in a short time.

Another truly memorable experience in my life is Kerala backwater tour. Perhaps the perfect way to explore the beauty of breathtaking backwaters is Kerala boathouses. Backwater trip with sightseeing experiences are really exhilarating. Karimeen Pollichathu is a yummy recipe that makes my tongue tingle. Ayurveda body massage for rejuvenating body, mind and soul was an amazing experience I had ever before. Food at Ayurveda Resort,  the ‘Karkadaka Kanji’ with invaluable herbs magical healing powers together with great medicinal value brought wonderful rejuvenating effect. I express my sincere gratitude to whole IPSR family for their support.”

In spite of the economic crises in the past years, IT security is the one field which is relatively resilient. IT companies are giving more importance to protect their critical network infrastructure. Security problems that threat IT companies increased the demand for security certifications among IT professionals and their employers.   Hence security certifications are having hot demand and does not seem to be cooling down. RHCA , Red Hat Certified Architect is the capstone Certification from Red hat with in-depth and hands-on training for Senior Linux System Administrators enabling them to design and deploy large and complex Linux based environments.

Life at IPSR, Edappaly branch made Mr. Jaimin a big fan of Kerala food , especially our “Puttu” -a break fast dish made of rice powder and grated coconut, steamed in a bamboo holder or coconut shell and “Sadya”-a typical Kerala feast served on a banana leaf, is a sumptuous spread of rice and more than 14 vegetable dishes, topped with “payasam”- the delicious sweet dessert cooked in milk. To his great joy Jaimin found a number of North Indian Restaurants in Cochin which offer delicious North-Indian dishes.

Celebrate Software Freedom day

The day observed worldwide to spread the message of free and open source software, International Software Freedom Day, is celebrating on September 18, 2010. Software Freedom Day (SFD) is an annual worldwide celebration of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS). “SFD”, is a day of celebration that there is some computer software that is not encumbered by copyrights and Patents which place limitations on the software. This Day aims to celebrate Free Software and the people behind it. It wants to spread the word about Free Software and help people find each other. The celebration is also intended to educate the worldwide public about the benefits of using high quality FOSS in education, in government, at home, and in business -- in short, everywhere!

SFD was initiated by a group of FOSS believers, Matt Oquist, Henrik Omma and Phil Harper with the idea of distributing the OpenCD to everyone. The idea of SFD is to unite and educate the world about the ideals of Software Freedom and the practical benefits of Free Software. Proprietary software, is computer software licensed under exclusive legal right, keeps the source code locked away from public scrutiny, which means there is no way to know exactly what the software actually does, and no way to trust it to safeguard your human rights. But the Open Source or Transparent technologies ensure transparency and you can trust the results and operation of your technology.

“Software Freedom International" (SFI) is a non-profit organization that acts as the official organizer of Software Freedom Day, and is the legal body that handles donations, sponsorship contracts, and accounting. The first Software Freedom Day was conducted on 28th August 2004. The name Software Freedom International was chosen to distinguish the organizational body from the event of Software Freedom Day itself. Each event is left to local teams around the world to organize. Pre-registered teams (2 months before the date or earlier) receive free schwag sent by SFI to help with the events themselves. Events themselves varies between conferences explaining the virtues of Free and Open Source Software, to workshops, demonstrations, games, planting tree ceremonies, discussions and InstallFests. Hundreds of teams around the world manage the local celebration and help to send out a global message. So don’t miss a chance to attend an SFD event nearby!

It’s quite unfair not mentioning about Richard Matthew Stallman, the President and founder of Free Software Foundation. Richard Matthew Stallman (born March 16, 1953), often abbreviated "RMS", is an American software freedom activist and computer programmer. In September 1983, he launched the GNU Project to create a free Unix-like operating system, and has been the project's lead architect and organizer. With the launch of the GNU Project, he initiated the free software movement; in October 1985 he founded the Free Software Foundation. Since the mid-1990s Stallman has spent most of his time advocating for free software, as well as campaigning against both software patents and what he sees as excessive extension of copyright laws.

In celebration of Software Freedom Day 2010, IPSR shares some of the favorite quotes about Free and Open Source Software from no less than the two pillars of FOSS, Linus Torvalds and Richard M. Stallman. Enjoy and be inspired!

To be able to choose between proprietary software packages is to be able to choose your master. Freedom means not having a master. And in the area of computing, freedom means not using proprietary software.

-Richard M. Stallman

Software patents are a huge potential threat to the ability of people to work together on open source. Making it easier for companies and communities that have patents to make those patents available in a common pool for people to use is one way to try to help developers deal with the threat.

-Linus Torvalds
